the perfect boaters picnic

Buckeye's perfect picnic

Mid to late summer is our favourite time of the summer. The weather is calm, the water is warm, and the bugs are starting to die down for the season. Even with the return to school coming fast around the corner there is still time to get in some summer fun in the sun... If you haven't thought to do so yet, why not try a Kawartha lakes picnic out on the water? For some picnic ideas to get you started, here is what Buckeye Marine's ideal picnic in the Kawartha lakes looks like.

Choose Your Spot

Big island (Boyd/ Chiminis island)

Big island (Boyd/ Chiminis island) on Pigeon lake

This iconic island on Pigeon lake is home to many picnic spots scattered along the east side. The trail loop also makes for a great adventure if you're up for a hike. If you're not a walker, no worries. Dock your boat on one of the two eastern docks and set up there. Public lake access on the east side of Pigeon is available off of Bear Creek rd. But if you're launching from Bobcaygeon, its just a few minute boat to the island.

Centennial Park and Beach

Centennial Park and Beach

You may have driven by this park if you've ever taken the route into Bobcaygeon that passes through the beach park (county rd 24). The 'Centennial Park' is scenic, unique and under-rated spot to settle for a picnic. A park worth exploring, and maybe even picnic worthy! Give it shot... you can find it by typing in Centennial park and beach (verulam) in to google.
